Water Testing Technology
Environmental surveillance is key for monitoring sustainability, climate change, and health at a worldwide level. Pollutants and pathogens have the potential to cause serious health problems, including infertility, cancer and kidney disease, and as such environment agencies collect data from rivers, lakes, ground water, estuaries, and coastal waters. Testing thus needs be carried out on an assortment of samples, including water, soil, and foodstuffs.
While regulatory bodies in the EU, UK & US do see the need to monitor pollutants more widely, in foodstuffs, water sources and the air, testing is not as widespread as it should be for pollutants in consumer goods (e.g. food packaging, cosmetics, waterproof fabrics, firefighting foams, non-stick cookware etc). These pollutants can enter the environment through landfill sites and can accumulate due to their chemical stability.
