Sarcalumenin is a 160 kDa acidic calcium binding glycoprotein found to reside at the inner membrane of the sarcoplasmic reticulum in a calcium dependent manner. The gene encoding sarcalumenin also encodes an alternate splice variant, a 53 kDa glycoprotein which co-localizes with sarcalumenin. These two proteins are found in the longitudinal sarcoplasmic reticulum and the nonjunctional membranes of the terminal cisternae. They have been observed to co-localize with calcium-ATPase suggesting that they are involved in calcium transport and sequestration.Specifications
